LIGNIERES (Switzerland) 18 August 2012 – The Supermoto GP of Switzerland starts today, in the recent and beautiful circuit of Lignieres, a 800 meters altitude location in Switzerland from one side of which the wonderful plain landscape could be admired while on the other side the Alps draw the horizon in this sunny day.
The challenging circuit of Lignieres is 1650 meters long, 420 of which are off road. There are no height differences along the circuit, which is clearly visible to all the people who came here today to witness the qualifications for the fifth and next-to-last seasonal GP of the FIM Supermoto World Championship, that with the race of tomorrow could determine the S1 Champion in advance.
27 riders have fought today in order to gain the best position for the tomorrow race, but for the third time this year is Mauno Hermunen aboard his TM Team SHR who gains the best lap time. After fighting a lot with the best timing of the Czech Pavel Kajmar (Ktm Bauerschmidt), the Finnish rider wins the first position by gaining the best lap time with 1'15.916 and thus coming before the French Thomas Chareyre (TM Factory Racing) - at the top of the World standings - with his timing 1'16.168. After them - in order for the best 10 riders of today's qualifications - the defending World Champion the French Adrien Chareyre (Aprilia Fast Wheels), the Italians Ivan Lazzarini (HM Honda Racing) and Teo Monticelli (Honda Freccia) and then Kejmar, Matthew Winstanley (GBR-TM SHR), Massimiliano Verderosa (ITA-Honda HBV), the local rider Philippe Dupasquier (SUI-Ktm) and the Italian Andrea Occhini (Honda-Red Foxes).
